What began in 1980 as an informal gathering of four friends in the banking field who periodically met for lunch to discuss their careers, has evolved into a professional women's organization. In addition to networking and fostering business relationships, the organization has awarded tens of thousands of dollars in grants and scholarships to local organizations and women over the past 40 years. The Port St. Lucie Business Women has grown from its 21 charter members in 1980 to nearly 65 women in the last few years.
To address the concerns of business women and offer learning opportunities to community members, the group organized seminars beginning in 1982. As professional women matured in their respective fields, the focus of the group shifted.
Raising significant funds to be distributed to local charities that benefit women and children, as well as scholarships, was set forth as a major goal. To accomplish this, the first of many Fashion Show and Luncheons occurred in 1990.
Over the years we have been proud to support many charitable organizations, either financially or physically. The PSLBW have painted walls at the Shamrock Center and SafeSpace, swung hammers for Habitat for Humanity, and participated in the both the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life and Breast Cancer Walks. Dozens of women's futures have been assured through scholarship awards to those attending IRSC.
As an independent entity, separate from any national or international organization, the Port St. Lucie Business Women is able to set forth its own agenda and its own goals. It's focus remains a professional organization dedicated to promoting the interests of business women and severing our community in an effective way.
The membership meets regularly to review the progress and achievements of the committees or learn from guest speakers, and to enjoy a professional fellowship over lunch. Meetings are held on the first and third Thursday at Tutto Fresco in St. Lucie West.
Before submitting a membership application, those who are interested in joining the Port St. Lucie Business Women must obtain sponsorship from an active member and attend two meetings. For more information contact our Membership Chair.
