The 300 guests at the sold-out 28th annual Port St. Lucie Business Women’s Vegas-themed Fashion Show became all shook up when Elvis (Darrell Dunhill, International Elvis Impersonator) crashed their party on April 21 at Harbour Ridge Yacht & Country Club. An all-time record of more than $26,000 was raised for their Community Action Grants which are awarded to local nonprofit agencies that benefit women and children, and provide scholarships for women who have chosen to continue their education at Indian River State College.
Over 200 individual items, gift baskets and gift certificates in the Silent Auction created high-stakes competitiveness. Top takers included two “money trees” festooned with gift cards and lottery tickets; Coach, Kate Spade and Dooney & Bourke pocketbooks; an Invicta-brand men’s watch; and a Thomas Kinkade painting. Other attention-grabbing top sellers included a catered party for 10, a Harbour Ridge Yacht and Country Club golf package and 2-night stay at PGA Vacation Rentals.
While many people dream of experiencing autumn in New England, Dave McDonough never dreamed he would win the Martha’s Vineyard trip that includes one week in a private home and a $400 voucher for airfare. Jennifer Picardi was thrilled with her up-to-date Apple iPad 9.7-inch Wi-Fi tablet and accessories.
Every year G. Alan’s Fine Jewelry & Coin in Fort Pierce unveils a custom designed and created piece of jewelry, which is offered in a separate raffle at the Fashion Show. This year they created a Vegas-worthy signature necklace, valued at $2,900. Andrea O’Connor-Hall was the winner of a sparkling 14 karat white gold pendant centered by a marquis opal surrounded by natural blue sapphires and full cut diamonds on an 18-inch, 14 karat white gold chain.
Port St. Lucie Mayor Greg Oravec, John Gallagher, husband of member Diane Gallagher, and Greg Wyatt, husband of member Carol Wyatt competed to sell raffle tickets for 50/50. This winning team brought in almost $3,000 in ticket sales, which was split with lucky jackpot winner Sarah Rittersbach. Rittersbach, a former member of the Port St. Lucie Business Women, generously donated $1,000 of her winnings back to the organization to go towards funding an additional scholarship.
