The Port St. Lucie Business Women received a proclamation from St. Lucie County in honor of National Business Women Week to recognize its outstanding community service efforts to St. Lucie County at the County Commission meeting on October 16. Port St. Lucie Business Women President Tammy Crandell, Vice President Angela Hayle, charter member Lee Hicks, among others, accepted the award.

National Business Women’s Week occurs October 14 through October 20. According to the proclamation, National Business Women’s Week provides an opportunity to call attention to women entrepreneurs, facilitate discussions on the needs of working women, share information about successful workplace policies, and raise awareness of the resources available for working women in their communities.

The Port St. Lucie Business Women was the first professional women’s group in the city, and its roots have been deeply anchored within our community. “For 37 years the Port St. Lucie Business Women have provided professional guidance, positively impacted the local economy, and served the interests of women and children in the community,” said President Tammy Crandell. The Business Women has awarded tens of thousands of dollars in grants and scholarships to local non-profit organizations and women through fundraising efforts of its annual Fashion Show. Their partnership with Indian River State College has benefitted local women through the award of more than $90,000 in scholarships to continue their education.

Additionally, the Port St. Lucie Business Women have supported and served many community needs, from painting walls at the Pace Center for Girls and SafeSpace, to swinging hammers for Habitat for Humanity, to participating in and sponsoring the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk.
